Marlena Chow, violin, has returned to the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra after taking a sabbatical during the 2008-09 season. During her sabbatical she traveled throughout the United States and abroad, visiting India, Nepal, Spain, Monaco, Greece, Turkey and Italy. The highlights of her travels were trekking through Nepal and summiting a 15,000 ft. peak in the Himalayas.
Chow spends the summer months in Santa Fe, N.M. as a member of the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra. As soloist, Marlena has appeared with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, the National Repertory Orchestra in Breckenridge, Colo., the New World Symphony and the Civic Orchestra of Minneapolis. As a chamber musician, she has performed with members of the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra, at the Tanglewood and Aspen music festivals, with the New World Symphony, the New England Conservatory, the National Repertory Orchestra and the Musicorda Summer String Program. She has also been a guest artist with the Chamber Music Society of Minnesota and the Headwaters Music Festival.
Chow is on the Advisory Board of the White Pine Festival in Stillwater, Minn. A certified Suzuki violin teacher, she enjoys maintaining a private teaching studio in Naples.
Born in St. Paul, Chow received her B.M. degree in Violin Performance at the New England Conservatory in Boston where she studied with Malcolm Lowe, concertmaster of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Prior to coming to Naples, she was a member of the New World Symphony in Miami Beach. Chow has been a member of the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra since 2001.
